Psalm 119:16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

Do I delight in God's laws? I will not forget, what am I doing to remember? This makes me think of Bible memorization...I should be doing more of that.

Psalm 119:17 Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.

...with thy servant

This is the phrase that stands out to me in this verse.  Are we His servant?  Do we serve Him?  Do I live to serve Him?  Do I keep His Word?  If yes...then He will deal bountifully with me.  This is not just a prosperity gospel.  This means that even when we are in our darkest hours, God will deal bountifully with me.  He will provide what I need.

Psalm 119:18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.

1. We have to open our eyes and read it

2. We have to behold (look) for it3.  We have to believe it

Wondrous things are waiting for you.  Open your eyes and behold God's Word each day!

Psalm 119:19 I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.

I am a stranger (guest, not a permanent resident) in the earth.  This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through.  Our time on earth will end.  We are only here for a short time.  While we are here though, we want God to reveal His Word to us.  Living by His Commandments (Bible) makes our whole life go smoother.

Psalm 119:20 My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times.

My soul breaketh, how emotionally involved am I with God's Word? For the longing, how dependent am I on God's Word?At all times, how constant am I in my meditating on God's Word?

Psalm 119:21 Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments.

Which do err...who?  The proud.  I don't want to err from God's Word.  If you stray from the Bible, you will become proud and it will result in a rebuke from God.  Then there is the whole cursed part, nope not interested in that either.

Psalm 119:22 Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies.

Here is a request to remove me from reproach and contempt.  Just because we are keeping His Testimonies doesn't mean we are insulated from bad stuff.  But...if we are keeping His Testimonies, we will be able to endure reproach and contempt better.  Keeping His Testimonies helps us handle life better.  It does not control others...it guides us.  Reading your Bible and applying it daily helps you ACT appropriately and not doing so cause you to REACT inappropriately.

I began to record my thoughts each day from my devotions many years ago. I love to use the dictionary to expand my understanding of the Bible. I started sharing them with others and decided to create a place to share them more easily. I pray these nuggets are an encouragement to you.
