Psalm 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He - who? God
maketh - To compel; to constrain.
me - who? Us
to lie down - To lie down, to lay the body on the ground or other level place; also, to go to rest.
in green pastures: - Properly, growing, flourishing, as plants; Grass for the food of cattle; the food of cattle taken by grazing
he - who? God
leadeth me - To guide by the hand; as, to lead a child. It often includes the sense of drawing as well as of directing.
beside - At the side of a person or thing; near; as, sit down beside me, or beside the stream.
the still waters.- Quiet; calm; not agitated;
Sometimes our Shepherd will make us stop and lay down. For our own good. Green pastures, the fresh new spring grass. He leadeth me, we must follow that leadership. Where will we end up if we are doing it on our own, in green pastures? Beside the still waters? Whatever turmoil is going on around you, He wants you beside still waters where you can be refreshed and calmed.
Psalm 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
He restoreth my soul: — To return to a person, as a specific thing which he has lost, or which has been taken from him and unjustly detained.
