Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
MY shepherd.
Picturing sheep in the field. They must choose to follow their shepherd. Their shepherd will take care of them. What if they wanted to do it all alone, would they be safe? Or well taken care of? All the other stuff our shepherd does for us is talked about in the rest of the chapter. What if we choose not to follow, do we get any of the benefits? Whether we choose to follow or not, He is still our shepherd. There, waiting to take good care of us if we let Him. I think we need to make the choice to make him MY shepherd.
Psalm 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
Sometime our Shepherd will make us stop and lay down. For our own good. Green pastures, the fresh new spring grass. He leadeth me, we must follow that leadership. Where will we end up if we are doing it on our own, in green pastures? Beside the still waters. Whatever turmoil is going on around you, He wants you beside still waters where you can be refreshed and calmed.
John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
