John 11:5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
Jesus loved Martha…
Martha is know for being the one that was cumbered about and working hard while Jesus was there. She was compared to Mary who sat at Jesus feet and found wanting. Yet in this verse she is mentioned by name that Jesus loved her and her sister.
John 11:20-22 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house. [21] Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. [22] But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
In these verses, Martha came to Jesus and talked of how she believed that she could have healed her brother before he died and could even heal him after he died.
This passage touched my heart this morning. Martha is normally looked down on because she was so busy serving that she wasn’t sitting at Jesus feet like Mary. But I see a heart that loves and believes that Jesus is God in this passage. A heart that wants to serve Him. Yes, she needed to be reminded to stop and sit at Jesus’ feet…but she also had a deep belief in Him as God that anything was possible.
